Half Marathon to Commemorate 2008 Sichuan Earthquake Symbolises the Rejuvenation of the Area

Xingzhi Exploring, together with Shuangyi Heritage Sports and Wanda Group will soon stage a unique event, Wenchuan Half Marathon, held at the location of the devastating 2008 Sichuan Earthquake. The half marathon shall symbolize the rejuvenation of the area as well as commemorating the victims of the disaster.

The exact location is Wenchuan County of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province. This location is easily reached from Sichuan’s capital and international hub Chengdu, being about an hour’s drive away.  The city of Chengdu is also one of the hubs for amateur running and outdoor sports general in China.

The starting point of the race is the tourist attraction known as World of Love in Dongcun Village on Min River, from where the course shall follow down the course of the said river, terminating at Shuimo Ancient Village in Shuimo Town, which is a fast-growing tourist destination following the rebuilding of the area after the 2008 earthquake.

Despite being located in an area of high altitude, the actual altitude on the race course stays at around 900m above sea level range, making for a comfortable running experience for amateur runners, as well for a spectacular setting of steep mountain valleys rising up from the valley floor.

Six thousand people have already registered for the event to be held on the 13th of May 2018.
