Antarctic Great Wall Marathon

Xingzhi have teamed up with Chilean company Olimpo Productions, who have been staging marathons, ultra-marathons and triathlons in the region since 1993, to stage a full marathon on King George Island on Antarctic Peninsula. The first edition will take place in 6th March 2018.
Tripolers, Xingzhi Group’s exclusive travel agency, pioneers of Polar tourism in China, have an excellent relationship with Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration, and work closely with the Chinese Great Wall Research Station. This has enabled Xingzhi to realize a long-standing project of brining Chinese runners to a home-organized running event in Antarctica.
The race shall include a 3km fun run as well as 7km and half and full marathon distances. The course is a classic point-to-point marathon course and shall take the runners in across King George Island, and not a closed loop ran over and over again like is the case for other races in the polar regions. The race course is so designed as to include Chinese, Russian, Chilean and Uruguayan research stations, where the participants can enjoy the unique experience of witnessing a working Antarctic research station in operation and can also enjoy the support of the bases’ staff.
The marathon program also includes an Antarctic cruise – the competitors meet in Buenos Aires, from where they fly to Ushuaia and then a Danish-built the Ocean Nova luxury cruise ship takes the competitors across the legendary Drake Passage to King George Island where the marathon takes place.
The return to Ushuaia after the race is also by the same cruise ship and the participants of the race also visit, weather permitting, the classic attractions of the Antarctic Peninsula – Port Lockroy, Cuvervile Island, Paradise Bay and Peterman Island. The duration of the entire package is two weeks (28th Feb.- 15th March 2017).
